Psalm 1 is one I continually find myself going back to – the imagery of the tree planted by rivers of water, and as I write this I am reminded of John 15

You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father

will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is my command: Love each other.

Jesus chose the disciples and he chose people recruitment consultants would suggest take no further

Jesus sees not as the world sees, but he sees the inner person, knows who will storms weather

And will stay the race of faith being witnesses to and of him, fruitful people who other lives make better

For they understand that he first loved them, and out of that know how to love each other.

We are called to bear fruit and fruit that will remain – to do this we need to have a firm understanding of God’s word, an acceptance of the fact that God first loved us, and a desire in light of the love of Christ shown to us that we not love one another, but love our neighbours as ourselves.

Will you take time to seek God’s counsel, to meditate upon his word? As you do you will be enabled to be like the tree planted by streams of living water

Blessed are they who walk not in the counsel of the ungodly

Nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful

For they know that what the world offers is not of Christ’s body

It challenges their every belief; it seeks to hurt and is deceitful

They know God’s love, like a mother hen, God of them is broody

God knows them all, shows to them, his grace oh so wonderful

The Godly delight in the Law of the LORD

And his law they meditate day and night

And as they seek God, they are in one accord

Together in this world there is a battle to fight

The word of God polished in them a two edged sword

In the name of Jesus they pray, demons flee at the sight

The Lord calls his people come meditate upon my word

As you do you will see anew my power and might

God’s people shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water

That brings forth its fruit in its season

Their lives in him to be lived fully, not a half or a quarter

His people know him, everything he does has a reason

His people need upon his word do more than loiter

And to remember they are his salt and light every season

Their leaves never wither, and in all they do, they prosper

For they imbibe open, soak in, drink, receive holy water

God commands be my disciples, love one another

Every one of you is mine, each of a son or daughter

Come to me, drink of my Spirit, freely given, without quarter

I called you to bear fruit that would remain and prosper

Hi

Paul in this passage is keen to exhort Timothy to greater things- 2 Timothy 1v7

7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

The time is coming when the church must fan into the flame its gifts and to be prepared to:

“Stand up, Stand up for Jesus
stand in his strength alone;
the arm of flesh will fail you,
ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the gospel armor,
each piece put on with prayer;
where duty calls or danger,
be never wanting there.”

Timothy, I thank God for you – the God I serve with a clear conscience just as my ancestors did night and day

I constantly remember you in my prayers. I long to see you again for I remember your tears as we parted

Paul had great love for Timothy and saw the potential he had to be a great leader as long as he kept in the way

The bond that is existed between them so deep that it was though they were father and son, related

Paul was so totally given over to serving God with all he was, and wanted Timothy to be the same, to not sway

Under the challenges that came against him, to not fear what others thought but complete what Paul started

To be a leader who would strengthen and grow the Church to preach the good news, to God love and obey

Paul longed to be alongside him, helping him the bond so great he could remember the tears as they parted

And I will be filled with joy when we are together again; I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first

Filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice, and I know that the same faith continues strong in you.

Timothy had a heritage handed down to him; which he embraced, he desired to serve his God, to after him thirst

He was genuine in his desire to serve his God, he knew God’s word, stood on it, and kept God fully in view

Paul took great joy in being in Timothy’s company for they were kindred spirits; their faith didn’t come in bursts

Rather it is was constant, wholly given to serving their saviour, trusting in him, giving God his holy due

That is why I remind you to fan into the flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands

On you, for God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline

Paul knew the challenges Timothy faced, let no one despise your youth, on your Lord firmly stand

Do not be afraid, take hold of the gift that is in you, do not to whims of others give in

Stand up for Jesus, know that the Spirit that is in you will guide you and help you to understand

What your Lord would want you to do, and to say, listen to the Spirit, let your incline

So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord, and don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison

For him, with the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News

The Good News must be shared whatever the cost, don’t be ashamed, rather the love of Christ always envision

Do all things for the Glory of God, hold onto that which you know to be true, keep Jesus in view

For it is not by your own strength but by his that you can do all things, lead people to make a Christ decision

Show them the better way which leads to life, by your example they will accept the Good News

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life, he did this, not because we deserved it

But because this was his plan from the beginning of time – to show us his grace through Christ Jesus

I know this because he brought me from darkness into the light, he restored my sight

That I would no longer despise him, rather live for him, to not with this world be in willing consensus

Rather that we be transformed by the renewing of our minds, follow that which is right

We live in the light of God’s grace that whilst we were still sinners he sent Jesus to free us

That we might have life, in all its fullness, to not have the stain of sin continuing to us blight

Each of us are offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, as new creations nothing can come against us

We live under grace, and by grace we are saved, let us open ourselves to God’s loving light

Have You Got A Second?

Every day I speak with people the topic of busyness inevitably comes up. Are we becoming too busy for own good, for our own God? If we desire to see God move, if we desire to see the Spirit rekindle and relight our churches, then we need to make the first move. The first move is to hear God’s call: come back to me my people, are you prepared to be led by me your good shepherd, to sit beside still waters, to have your souls restored, to be led in paths of righteousness for my names sake?

Are we becoming a bit like the Mad Hatter, are we going to be late for an important date? Are we going too fast to hear the voice of God, what is God trying to say to you… perhaps it is this?

Have you got a second?

Have you got a second?

Sorry just off to a meeting

Have you got a second?

Sorry I’m just in the middle of reading the paper

Have you got a second?

Sorry I’m on the telephone

Have you got a second?

Sorry I’m off to pick up the kids

Have you got a second?

Sorry I’m in the middle of something can’t it wait?

Dear God haven’t heard from you lately

Where’s my life going, why aren’t you saying anything?

I’m busy, but I need to know what you’re doing

Aren’t you out there, are you listening?

My life’s blurry, whirring, going before my eyes

Can’t you see me, are you there God?

My dear child, I am here, I keep knocking

My dear child, I keep saying, have you got a second?

Have you got a second? Have you got a second?

You see I have something to say to you today

Have you got a second? Have you got a second?

Child I have searched you and know you,

I know when you sit and rise

I perceive your thoughts from afar

I discern your going out and your lying down

I am familiar with all your ways

I know even before you say a thing what it is completely

I created your inmost being

I knitted you together in your mother’s womb

I saw your unformed body as it was weaved

I have ordained all the days of your life

You are fearfully and wonderfully made

My thoughts of you my dear child are precious

They are without number, my dear child I know you

I know your every need, have you got a second?

Hi All

One of the aspects of the Gospels we see again and again is that Jesus upturns the expectations in this passage “thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike ”   We need to re-recognise the need for humility in the sight of our God, to acknowledge we don’t have the answers, to be prepared to lay down our burdens, to trust, to take on his yoke. Yet do we do it, often we are too stubborn,  Proverbs 3 calls upon us not too lean on our own understanding, but rather to trust the Lord with all our heart, to seek his will in all we do. If we were to do this, I believe if we were to do this we would have a much better comprehension of God’s will. Jesus calls upon us to abide in him, to know him is to know the Father.

Matthew 11 vs.  25-30 Jesus’ Prayer of Thanksgiving

At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding

These things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike

We live in a world which says “Just Do It”, don’t worry there are no consequences, no chiding

It doesn’t matter if you step on others to get your own way, even if it seems astute and businesslike

Into this world the Church can and does need to be prophetic, to speak even if it’s not to their liking

Are we prepared to open ourselves to what God can reveal, to speak his word and other hearts strike?

In our busyness reading the paper, watching the news, do we shut out our God, are we in him abiding?

We are called to abide in God, to soak in his presence, to cherish his words, to be before him childlike

Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!  “My Father has entrusted everything to me.

No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son

Do we know God, do we know his Son? Jesus desires that we abide in him, in him be

His loves for us so great that he acquiesced to God’s will he died in order that victory over sin was won

That we no longer be under condemnation, but new creations, be in me, Christ’s plea

Do we desire to enquire in his temple, to meditate upon him, to know the Father like his Son?

And those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you

Who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you.

God desires to reveal to us his word, and desires that we let go of that which blocks our view

Of what God sees and desires for us which is far greater than we can imagine or think we can do

Trust him that as you let go of your burdens and the things you have tried to handle it’s his purview

For those that wait upon him will have their strength renewed and be lifted up to see God’s view

Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest

For your souls, for my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Are we prepared to be like Mary and sit at the feet of our master, and do what is best?

To choose the good course and listen to his words to us, which give us sight

In the mad busyness of this world it easy to be on an uphill treadmill and not seek rest

To be constantly on the run and trying to achieve and do what we think is right

Yet in doing so we can shut God out and lose sight of his plans and put him to the test

Humble yourself in his presence, let go and let God, for we are his love and delight

Hi All

Nehemiah teaches us many lessons about how communities can function when they work together shoulder to shoulder, side by side, for the common good, putting aside agendas and seeing a bigger picture. Life is like a jigsaw puzzle, we won’t know the final completion of the good work began in us until the day of Christ Jesus (Phil 1 v 6). At times the pieces don’t seem to fit but God is the master Jigsaw maker and knows every piece and where it fits, we need to trust him for the outcome.

The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun son of Col-Hozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah. He rebuilt it, roofing

It over and putting its doors and bolts and bars in place. He also repaired the wall of the Pool of Siloam,

Shallun ruler of the district of Mizpah got to work with his people to restore and rebuild even do weather-proofing

It was important to repairs the walls of the Pool of Siloam as it was the main source of water for Jerusalem

God is not only concerned about our physical thirst and need for safe water, he also desires our spiritual refreshing

That can sometimes come as we participate in the work of his Kingdom when we see him overcome problems

Things that seem impossible to us are not to God, he knew that in rebuilding Jerusalem he would fears be soothing

The people of Jerusalem could believe God’s plans for them were for good as they rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem

By the King’s Garden, as far as the steps going down from the City of David, beyond him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk,

Ruler of a half-district of Beth Zur, made repairs up to a point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial pool

Nehemiah describes in detail the scope of the works undertaken, each section of wall rebuilt is written in the book

We can get a sense of what was done and who did it, it is a historical account that can be relied upon and faith instil

In recent years archaeological digs have found portions of Nehemiah’s wall and you can on internet have a closer look

God’s word is verifiable and true, we can have faith in the recording of these events and is worth exploring in full

The book of Nehemiah as It can give us a hope and we can learn from Nehemiah and from the faith journey he took

To step out in faith having prayed and fasted is something we often don’t do, and is like looking into an artificial pool

And the House of the Heroes, next to him, the repairs were made by the Levites under Rehum son of Bani.

Beside him, Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his district.

People from all walks of life were involved, even the Priests got their hands dirty, the work was done by many

People took responsibility for their own neighbourhood, fixing what had been derelict

We can learn from this, often we say not our problem when we see tagging or decay, we’re not complimentary

Instead perhaps we should be complementary, working together to clean our district

Next to him, the repairs were made by their countrymen under Binnui son of Henadad, ruler of the other half-district

Of Keilah Next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section,

Side by side, shoulder by shoulder people from various parts of Jerusalem too responsibility for repairs in their district

They knew no one else was available for the work and they did it section by section

Like a big jigsaw puzzle they put the pieces together, working out what didn’t fit and gradually the pieces did fit

Life is a jigsaw sometimes pieces don’t seem to fit yet God knows our every  section

From a point facing the ascent to the armoury as far as the angle, next to him, Baruch son of Zabbai zealously repaired

another section, from the angle to the entrance of the house of Eliashib the high priest.

Our attitude towards what we do impacts on others, Baruch was determined to do his best, he zealously repaired

The wall he didn’t stint, he put a 110% into the work, he made sure he did his very best

Are we able to say the same about our commitment to God, are we overwhelmed by life, are we spiritually impaired?

Or do we simply try to do too much, are we better do a few things well and giving our best?

Next to him, Meremoth son of Uriah, the son Of Hakkoz, repaired another section, from the entrance

Of Eliashib’s house to the end of it the repairs next to him were made by the priests from the surrounding region.

Such was the scope of the work that people from surrounding regions did the repairs they took a stance

They understood that a stronger Jerusalem was good for them as well, not doing something was not a consideration

We too need to look outside our own interests and consider the needs of others and their lives enhance

For as we do we do we proclaim the Lord until he returns, he came to seek and save the lost and proclaim liberation

As we approach Easter Friday Isaiah 53 which predates the death of Christ by some 800 years gives a poignant account of what the Suffering Servant must go through. The harshness of the imagery in The Passion of the Christ also should give us pause and may we take the opportunity this Easter to re-commit and re-focus on the Lamb that was slain, the new covenant in his blood, that gives us the hope of redemption.

Isaiah 53 vs. 1-7  – Like A Lamb To The Slaughter

Who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm?

My servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground.
Jesus came to this earth not in majesty but in a manger and was instantly at harm

Herod did not want competition and sought out newborn boys his worry was deep and profound

Divinely warned Mary and Joseph left Bethlehem to Nazareth where all was calm

Jesus grew in stature and wisdom and in favour with God and men, his belief in God was sound

Yet he kept below the radar, a carpenter, an ordinary man who did not swear or say darn

For 30 years he grew in favour with God and his love for him when the Spirit came did resound

There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him.

He was despised and rejected, a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.

Jesus knew what he was called to and demonstrated his Father and spoke of his kingdom

People saw him do mighty acts, were amazed by his oratory hoping he would give relief

From their oppression by the Romans, that they would be free and that it was not a whim

On Palm Sunday they thought he was to be a conquering king, Friday he was hung by a thief

We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.

Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down.

On the cross he hung weeping for a people lost in sin, he did take their sin and he did it bear

At the end he cried out “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” he was down

He was sad for his Father could not intercede for him, Jesus had to our sins take and bear

In order that victory over Satan could be won Jesus had to die on the Cross and be down

And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!

But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole.

Jesus endured more than we could imagine, yet he was without sin and died sad within

Separated from his Father, nevertheless he said “ Your will be done”, even though deep in his soul

He wished the cup of death could be taken away, he died a horrible death for our sins

Not because we deserved it, rather that we might from sin be set free and be complete, whole

He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.

We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

He loved us so much he sent his Son to free us from sin, so over it us it wouldn’t hold sway

We are not deserving of such love, such grace so amazing demands our love, our all

Yet so often we fail to give to him our worship, we fall and from his love we drift away

Jesus paid the price, he died for us nailed to cross the LORD laid on him the sins of us all

He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb

To the slaughter, and as a sheep is silent before the shearers he did not open his mouth.

He could have done many things to prove his Lordship, his critics did him verbally slam

They mocked and whipped him, they stood around him, much of what they said was uncouth

They will meet him on the day of Judgement and they will bow and worship the holy lamb

Today the choice is yours will you worship the Lord? Will you sing will you open your mouth?

Sing praises to him, at his name every knee will bow, every tongue confess worthy is the lamb

For he has redeemed us and we are free from sin, let us praise him with him all our youth

Isaiah 53 vs. 8-12 – The Cost of The Cross

Unjustly condemned, he was led away.  No one cared that he died without descendants,
That his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people.

He did not protest the crowds shouted free Barabbas, the roar from them was ascendant

Pilate washed his hands of the situation he knew Jesus was innocent but heard the people

Jesus was whipped and mocked in front of a regiment, of him they were condescendant

They put a crown of thorns on his head, and a purple robe, mocked him a king of people

Yeah right I can hear them say, King of the Jews, to us you are lowly, your life on us dependent

So they led him to the place of the skull, Golgotha, nailed him to a cross in front of many people

He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal

He was put in a rich man’s grave but it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief.

As Jesus’ life came to an end on the cross, he died a horrible death that he might free us all

From sin and diseases, that we might not perish, but have eternal life, if we in him place our belief

He cried out at the end, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me” He died for us all

To be separated from his Father was so painful, he took on him all sin, and it caused him grief

Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants.

He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands.

For God chose to raise him from the dead and he over death was ascendant

Nothing could hold him down he rose on the third day and walked over the land

He instructed the disciples who grew the church which now has many descendants

He is the Lamb upon the throne, and the LORD’s good plan will prosper in his hands

When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied, and because of his experience,

My righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.

For we cannot be made right without his death on the cross, for our sin nature is with God at variance

We all have sinned and turned away, only through his death can we be saved from all of our sins

He calls each of us by name and is acquainted will all our ways and desires that life in full we experience

I came that you might have life in all it’s abundance, will you trust me for I have borne all your sins

I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death.

He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.

Even now he is intercedes for us understanding the pressures and loads we are beneath

He counsels us to come to him with our loads, put on his yoke and he will our fears quell

For he is worthy, worthy of our worship, lamb upon the throne, he has conquered death

At his name every knee will bow, every tongue confess, he is Lord, will you of him tell?

I can only but imagine the scene when Jesus tells the disciples in the Upper Room that one of them is going to betray him.  The turmoil it must of caused, the consternation, each of the disciples looking at the others sideways.

I am not sure if they picked the one who did betray Jesus, some times we too try to second guess things, and what we think God might be doing, and we can get wound up or spend too much time in this activity. What God could be saying in these circumstances is not for us to guess rather as Proverbs 3 5-6 puts it  Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths

John 13 vs. 18-22 – Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

“I am not saying these things to all of you; I know the ones I have chosen. But this fulfills the Scripture

That says, ‘The one who eats my food has turned against me.’ I tell you this beforehand,

For I chose you and appointed you to bear fruit, you responded to my call, I didn’t need to conscript you

Over the last three years we have journeyed together, sharing all things, we have been a band

I am your leader, I chose you and you have followed me, yet one of you is against me and is in plain view

I have demonstrated my love to you tonight by my actions, yet you struggle to me understand

In the days ahead there will be things that sadden and scare you, and there are things you will say and do

Know this not all of you are with me, for one of you is against me, I tell you this beforehand,

So that when it happens you will believe that I Am the Messiah I tell you the truth, anyone who welcomes

My messenger is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming the Father who sent me.”

Don’t lose sight of who I AM, I have chosen you and you will speak and share my words, be my witnesses

Stand on what I have told and shown you, for my words are my Fathers words, soon I will with him be

Who will stand with me? Whoever does not stand with me is against me, woe to him, for his end comes

I call you to be my messengers, those who welcome you, welcome me and the Father who sent me

Now Jesus was deeply troubled, and he exclaimed, “I tell you the truth; one of you will betray me!

” The disciples looked at each other, wondering whom he could mean.

Eleven disciples were unaware of whom Jesus was speaking of, but Judas knew he was the one in view

He had already been bought by the authorities and on no one else could lean

Jesus knew what was ahead and the depth of his feelings was evident, the disciples could them see

It caused them much consternation, who is it, which one of us does he mean?

Eleven of them knew it wasn’t themselves, but Judas knew and I know I wouldn’t in his shoes want to be

I wonder how if I was there that night would I have picked who Jesus did mean

We can easily get caught up in second guessing God, may we instead learn to be messengers, in Him be

We live in a world where looking after number 1 is the first priority. Jesus shows us a different way. Jesus was prepared to be a servant but still understood his rightful place as head of the table, but didn’t exploit that authority.  As we get closer to Easter Friday may we consider again the cost of the Cross

John 13 vs. 12-17 – Christ’s Example

After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand

What I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am.

Jesus didn’t stay garbed as a servant or continue to bow before the disciples the role he did dis-band

Rather he put his robe back on and resumed his rightful place at the head of the table and said I am

Your “Teacher” and “Lord” I am the one from whom you have learnt and have walked with in this land

You have seen me heal the sick, the blind, the crippled, cast out demons, you know who and what I am

I have demonstrated my authority here on Earth, but I am not with you much longer my death is at hand

Tonight I have shown you my love by my actions, I didn’t need to do it as you know, but that’s who I am

And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash

Each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.

I have given you an example of selflessness, greatness is not in having loads of cash

Nor is leadership shown by being high and mighty or demeaning or lording it over you,

Rather it is about being prepared to demonstrate what is required and not being rash

I call you to be slow to anger, to do what you have seen me do, keep it firmly in view

I tell you the truth; slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important

Than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

Don’t puff yourselves up, place importance in who you are or argue with each other and be discordant

For in doing this you do not bear witness of me on this Earth, I call you to this world save and redeem

For you are to be my messengers to tell of me after I am gone, and to show people what is important

Not money, wealth, treasure on Earth for seeking after these things is in vain, to be treated with disdain

But you are to call people to repentance, to follow me and to teach them my ways, to of me be observant

My Father in heaven will see when you do the things I have shown you and will bless you for doing them

As we come into Easter Week each day I will have a poem from John 13. This powerful chapter set in the Upper Room as Jesus and the disciples celebrate Passover has many powerful messages starting with Jesus demonstrating the leadership model for the Church – that of servant leadership, one which the disciples struggled to comprehend – indeed many of the words spoken by Jesus that night were incomprehensible to the disciples. As we take time to contemplate Easter may we not ease into a familiarity with the story, but rather consider the implications and the cost of discipleship. It is time to not only sing songs such as the Servant King but to consider what it is to serve the King.

John 13 vs. 1-11 – Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet

Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father he had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end. It was time for supper,

Jesus knew not only what lay before him, and he knew the disciples weren’t ready for him to be from their lives be removed

As they reclined around the table after a long and tiring day, they couldn’t comprehend what Jesus was to suffer

They had been on a high coming into Jerusalem, Hosanna in the Highest! The crowds called, and they were moved

Yet a few days later they were about to see how things would change, and for them things were going to get tougher

In the next twenty four hours, one would betray Jesus, one would deny him, others would through be fear be scattered

Yet Jesus knowing all this desired to share with them his love to the very end, now it was time for supper

And the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus, Jesus knew that the Father

Had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.

Jesus was carrying an awful lot on his mind, yet he was determined that he would follow the will of the Father

He could have asked for the cup of suffering to be taken away and God could have given him the Nod

Jesus had all authority and he could have defeated his earthly enemies by the sword and taken things much further

But he knew the bigger picture that victory over sin was more important and he was in tune with God

So he got up from the table, Took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin

Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.

For him to do this was to take the form of the lowliest servant and do a job treated in that time with utter disdain

It was also unnecessary as all their feet will have been cleaned when they had entered in

So in doing this Jesus’ intent was to demonstrate to the disciples’ leadership and he did this to show and explain

That greatness is not in being served, but in serving and he showed this emphatically to them

When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied,

“You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.”  “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!”

Peter knew that for Jesus to wash his feet was far beneath his Lord, and he was uncomfortable and surprised

He couldn’t understand the purpose of what Jesus was trying to do and couldn’t bear the thought of Jesus washing his feet

Sometimes we too face things which to us are so far our of our conditioning and belief that we are perplexed

We need to seek God in these times and know his plans, thoughts, and ways are higher, we should his will always seek

For his plans for us always have a purpose, a future, and a hope we have to in God trust and understand

Sometimes it’s easier said than done, we need to be careful we like Peter don’t protest, “You will never ever wash my feet!”

Jesus replied “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head

As well, Lord, not just my feet!”  Jesus replied, “A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash,

For they are already clean, they have already at a certain point, the disciples had followed where Jesus them lead

They had heard his words, seen his actions, had been loyal to him, even if at times things they made a hash

Jesus loved them deeply and demonstrated this to them in washing their feet, but he was also doing a deeper deed

He was according to them a status of being pure and having status, in him they were clean and did not need to wash

Except for the feet, to be entirely clean and you disciples are clean, but not all of you.”

For Jesus knew who would betray him that is what he meant when he said, “Not all of you are clean.”

Jesus was saying that he knew one of them was not wholly clean, Judas he had in view

In washing their feet Jesus made them clean, and also according them a status not previously seen

They were to be leaders, and this cleansing was a step towards what would ensue

The disciples would go on to receive the Holy Spirit and be leaders of a movement never before seen.

Hi All

In this time it is so easy to be focussed on finances and on ensuring we get through as well as possible. Yet I wonder if this pulls us away, distracts us from hearing God. Do we want to lay hold of what Christ Jesus has laid hold for us. Part of the process of life is letting go of the past, being prepared to put our burdens down and allow God to work in our lives. It is so easy to be stressed by the pressures of modern living, which makes it even more important to do what Jesus did and be prepared to take time out, to go to the quiet places and spend time conversing with the Father. As we do this we can be re-empowered, re-focussed, is a voice calling to you saying “Come to me all you who are heavy laden?” Mt 11.28ff

Not that I have already attained or am already perfected, but I press on

That I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has laid hold for me

I know that I have much to learn, I need to sit at the feet of God’s Son

To comprehend what it is he has laid hold for me, to understand and see

I need to seek the Lord with all I am, and in life make him number one

For he is who I seek, I am not perfect, far from it, I can’t like him sinless be

Yet with his helper the Spirit I can seek to do his will, to in him press on

Looking to Christ seeking his face, holding in to all he has planned for me

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do

Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forward

There is so much more I need to understand, at times life’s a zoo

It becomes so busy, that I lose sight of God time with him goes overboard

I am far from perfect, yet God loves me unconditionally even when I feel blue

He calls me to be one with him, to seek his face, and to move forward

Forgetting those things which are behind, seeking healing, pushing thru

For he knows his plans for me, his voice saying Christian soldier onward!

To those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal

Of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

I desire to march forward in time with him, with all my soul

For I have the hope that one day in heaven I’ll be with Jesus

Until that day I desire to serve and grow in him whatever the role

Nothing the world can offer compares to being one with Jesus
